Wild Rice Seeding Underway!

ACD is working to restore wild rice, an iconic wetland plant central to the area's past and present culture. MN has more acres of natural wild rice than any other state. We recently seeded 14 acres in the outflow from Little Stanchfield Lake in Isanti County and another 9 acres in a Rum River oxbow.
Wild rice is a grass that grows in water 1-3 feet deep. The seed is processed into wild rice that you and I eat, but waterfowl also love the seeds. Wild rice forms critical wetland habitat.This work is funded by a grant to enhance Rum River corridor habitat and is done in collaboration with regional partners throughout the watershed. The Outdoor Heritage Council provides the grant. Funds originate from the Clean Water Land, and Legacy Amendment.
